Long-tailed Mockingbird – Latin name: Mimus longicaudatus.
Its a species of bird in the Mimidae family. It is found in dry scrubland and woodland in western Ecuador.
In Peru it is found throughout the coastal region, although much less so south of Ica.
The bird favours open habitats with scattered low bushes and shrubs, such as forest edge and young second growth, montane scrub.
It is frequently found in gardens and parks—especially in Miraflores and other parts of Greater Lima. It often feeds on the ground, running forwards on relatively long legs.
An attractive, thrush-like bird, the Long-tailed Mockingbird has an with a long, elegant tail which it carries at a pert angle whilst on the ground. Its plumage is made up of gray, cappuccino, and dun coloured feathers. The outer tail feathers are broadly tipped white. Its face has been described as harlequin pattered. The juvenile is duller, with a dark iris, and is spotted or streaked on underparts.
Note: The Long-tailed Mockingbird is a new species for my list of birds = # 157

Hello my dear friends, I’m happy to be back home from my adventurous trip to Peru.
For quite a while I had the idea of one day go to Peru and visit the coastal region since I’ve been to the Andean and Amazon regions in previous years.
My plan for this trip was kind of bold because involved a lot of travel by land and demanded carrying equipment and plenty of hiking. Luckily I wasn’t alone for this project, I had two cousins to accompany me in this project. One of them quit after just two weeks! Too hard of a job. The other cousin tagged along to the end. We completed the journey as planned.
Believe me, it’s the last time I’d do anything like that again. It was a great experience but it’s the last one for me… I ain’t young chicken anymore 🙂
Now that I’m home I’ll continue my daily blogging as usual starting on MARCH 13th.
Dear friends:
Today I’ll be flying to Lima, capital of Peru in South America. I’ve been there in previous times but never have time enough to finish.
My two cousins and I will be flying from different States and meet there in Lima and begin our planned trips.
I’ll do my best to blog while I’m there but it may not be so easy if I go to small towns or out of the Capital.
When I get back to USA, I will definitely resume my daily blogging… I promise!
Thank you in advance for your patience and kindness.
