  1. I found what I thought was a great blue heron in breeding plumage on Sunday. It seemed small, though, and just “different” somehow. I wasn’t nearly close enough for my camera to do a good job of getting an image, but now I’m thinking it may have been a tricolored heron. I’ve never seen one in breeding plumage, and rarely see one. They’re around in our area, but not common.

    • The GBH is much larger than the tricolored heron and grayer, also have a patch of black on the sides. Thanks for sharing, Linda. 🙂
