What’s Up? – Ups and Downs…
Ups and Downs…
My son Tyler, just turned 9 years old on May 7th, but he will have his Pool Party on May 25th. Because all children will be out of School Year by then. This also mean that we, the parents are going to be very busy.
Meanwhile, in the backyard, our trees are looking green and have plenty of leaves. Everything from grass, bushes, shrubs, weeds or trees are growing at fast pace now.
This year I ‘ve noticed that European Starlings are more numerous than previous years and are hanging out in this area. One thing I must say, is that they are more voracious than the Brown-headed Cowbirds, also unruly.
I also have counted 5 squirrels that are also causing havoc at the feeders.
Other that the mentioned above, all seems to be OK and birds are in good shape.
That should be a great birthday party. I wish your son well. Also, that is a great picture of the Red-headed Woodpecker, we don’thave them here, to the best of my knowledge.
Thanks so much, Jane. He’s very excited about it! 🙂
Happy Birthday to Tyler! I hope the birds sang him a special song on his special day.
Thank you, Linda. I’m sure they did, the birds are always singing. 🙂
Loved your lunch eating bird. Good luck with the pool party for Tyler.
Yes, I’m going to need it! Thanks, Susan. 🙂
Love your photos! I have most of these birds, but our pesky starlings left when a pair of Kestrels moved in to a spot in the rafters!
Thanks, 13. The starlings eat too much and they don’t give other birds the chance to get a meal. 🙂
Our starlings are much decreased over recent years so it is good to know that you are getting more. They are rowdy though as you say.
The starlings are very numerous and are a nuisance for agriculture, they are not the favorites among the farmers. 🙂

Un saluto,silvia
Apprezzo le tue belle parole. Grazie mia amica Silvia. 🙂
Interesting, my daughter’s feeders in Delaware are also having larger numbers of European Starlings this Spring over last. And they are eating almost all the birdseed! I buy their seed so my 2yr old grandson can watch the feeder outside their window. Jaxon is learning about birds already with Grammy! 😊
This year, they must have been more prolific because they are hitting my feeders with their brood and eat like ‘political inmates in prison’ (This means …a lot!) Jaxon is going to be great, like his Grammy! 🙂
😊
Happy Birthday, Tyler! I hope the pool party is a success.
Thank you so much, Clare. I appreciate it. 🙂
My pleasure, HJ! 🙂
Happy Birthday to Tyler…what a fun birthday party you have planned for him. There has been an abundance of starling at my place this year also and they have been causing a real ruckus. Nice photos of the birds…you are a great photographer.
Thank you very much, Mags. The starlings eat most of the stuff I put out the feeders and poop all over the place! My deck and hedges are turning white with their crap. 🙂
Same here and they are running off some of the birds that I would really like to stay. I stopped putting out anything with corn in it and that has helped some.
Many thanks for your many beautiful photos and in particular your backyard notes. Best wishes from Costa Rica.
Thank you very much, Paul. 🙂
