Hummers for M-R
This particular post is about the Ruby-throated Hummingbird. They are not yet present in my town but I’m posting some pictures from my archives.
I usually do not post on request but this time is an exception. This bird has caused certain impression to a dear friend follower that lives far, far away like somewhere in Australia. Her name is too long to write it so we all know her as M-R. and believe me when I say people know her.
Smart, intelligent, sharp, artistic, magnetic personality, good looking… ok, enough about me! She’s a wonderful person that always gets what she wants or you will suffer the consequences of her literary wrath!
Besides, who’s going to say no to such sweet lady!… (Are you grinning?).
Well, to make a long story short (for my blogging is usually the way around), the birds that you’re going to see are very small and weigh an average of 5 grams! They are extremely fast fliers and can easily hover or fly backwards. I love those little birds, they are the birds that have touched my feelings more than any other.
M-R, this small gallery is dedicated to you!

These are striking! Well captured
Thanks James! 🙂
Wow incredible colours! 🙂
Thanks! 🙂
you’re welcome!! 🙂
I would love to see a humming bird in real life. Both my husband and eldest daughter have seen them on trips to the States and I am most jealous! This post is a second best treat to seeing the real thing. Thank-you HJ!
You’re so kind Clare! Thank you! I’m sure that I’ll be posting more photos as we go through the good seasons. 🙂
Lovely! Thank-you
What a fantastic tribute to our dear M-R! 🙂 🙂 Excellent photos as always!
Thanks Dina! 🙂
Wonderful photos. Good Job…
Best wishes, Aquileana 🙂
Thank you Aquileana! Muchas gracias! 🙂
A glimpse of a hummingbird always makes my day. These are beautiful shots.
Thanks Elisa! 🙂
Oh wow, they’re so beautifully captured- well done!
Thank you Sophie! 🙂
I am almost speechless, HJ !!! I’m so … complimented that I’m blushing. Who would ever have thought to see the day ? 🙂 This is THE most gorgeous post ever: hummingbirds are about as beautiful and wonderful as birds get. The ruby-throated ? – well, the incredible tiny creature speaks for itself …
But THE PHOTOGRAPHY ! – give me strength ! How do you do it ? I’ve been asking myself that question ever since I found your sites; and there’s only the one answer – talent. Just talent. That’s all. You either got it or you ain’t got it.
You sure got it, HJ Ruiz.
THANK-YOU FROM THE HEART !!!!!!!!
I’m glad that you liked it M-R, I did what I promised you! 🙂
And more.
I shall boastfully reblog it – but mainly for the sake of those glorious tiny birds.
Reblogged this on MARGARET-ROSE STRINGER and commented:
IMPOSSIBLE not to re-blog ! – a doubly delightful post from this fabulous bird photog.
These are such stunning birds. When we lived in Southern California we planted some flowers in the garden with the express purpose of attracting hummingbirds, but were never able to photograph them as beautifully as this. I wish!
Thanks for sharing Sue! 🙂
HJ is a bird specialist, though, Sue – as can easily be seen ! I was so THRILLED with this post, you can scarcely imagine … Hang on – YOU can ! – you know precisely what it means for a post to thrill M-R so as to render her almost silent … 😀
I want you to know that I did it of pure respect to your person, to your wit, to your hutzpah, your brilliant mind and the great heart that hides behind your shtick. I admire all that and you should be always rewarded with love! You amuse me in your literary way you always stick in here and there. I was happy that you accepted my token of friendship! 🙂 or I should grin:)) instead.
No words. I simply can’t think of anything to say …
LOL! You’re easily pleased MR 🙂
Absolutely wonderful! M-R sent me here and I’m glad she did! 🙂
Thank you Elle! It’s nice to meet you! I’ve just became your follower! 🙂
Well I shall nip over and return the compliment 🙂
Such astounding little beings.
Thank you! Yes, they are! 🙂
Fantastic hummer captures, HJ! 🙂
Thanks Donna! 🙂
We do love her, don’t we! Smashingly beautiful!
Nice to meet you Leya! Thanks for your visit and yes you’re right we do! Please don’t tell her..:)
Oh, of course not – she might grin ;-))
Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous!! We had one short visit from a ruby-throated hummingbird on Friday but unfortunately it didn’t return again. It’s still fairly early for them in northern Michigan. Your photos show them beautifully, H.J.! I’m especially impressed by the perching shots, that is no easy feat to accomplish but then you are a professional!
Thank you Amy! You’re never short of compliments and you’re spoiling me! 🙂
You always deserve the praise. And I meant to ask, what is your other blog? I don’t think I knew you have two.

Enjoy it!
Thank you, I’m following that one now, too! 🙂
Amazing photos of these amazing creatures! We’ve got hummingbirds all over Southern California. They appear, hover for a few seconds, then dart away at warp speed. I don’t have the camera or the patience to capture them. This ruby-throated h’bird is a real looker! Nice gift for M-R.
Thanks! 🙂
Miraculous creatures, Thank you for sharing these beautiful photos HJ!
Thank you very much Barbara! 🙂
I love hummingbirds and the deep buzzing they make as they zoom around. The photo you captured of the hummer at the feeder is amazing … I guess largely because I’ve never actually seen their wings! Absolutely beautiful!!
Thank you very much for sharing Joanne! 🙂
M-R almost speechless? That’ll be the day. 🙂 We have been visited by hummingbirds in our backyard whenever the landscaping is in bloom and I can tell you they do not hum. They sound like miniature speed boat when they are hovering near you.
M-R just had polished her nails and didn’t feel like typing a long reply until they dried! Thanks for sharing Emilio! 🙂
