Gallery # 40 – Blue Jay

Now that I’m feeling a lot better of my back, I’ve been shooting more pictures and I’ve seen a lot of bird activity in the backyard. Today I bring you a Blue Jay that hung around for long while, checking all the area. He even got into a confrontation with a Northern Mockingbird.

Northern Flicker

I can’t believe that I’m still finding new species in my backyard. It’s amazing to me. I’m totally elated! 🙂

Northern Flicker Spec. Name: Colaptes Auratus

Northern Flickers are large, brown woodpeckers with a black-scalloped plumage. On walks, don’t be surprised if you scare one up from the ground. It’s not where you’d expect to find a woodpecker, but flickers eat mainly ants and beetles, digging for them with their unusual, slightly curved bill.

Description
Flickers are fairly large woodpeckers with a slim, rounded head, slightly downcurved bill, and long, flared tail that tapers to a point. Flickers appear brownish overall with a white rump patch that’s conspicuous in flight and often visible when perched. The undersides of the wing and tail feathers are bright yellow, for eastern birds, or red, in western birds. With a closer look you’ll see the brown plumage is richly patterned with black spots, bars, and crescents. Northern Flickers spend lots of time on the ground, and when in trees they’re often perched upright on horizontal branches instead of leaning against their tails on a trunk. They fly in an up-and-down path using heavy flaps interspersed with glides, like many woodpeckers.
Look for flickers in open habitats near trees, including woodlands, edges, yards, and parks. In the West you can find them in mountain forests all the way up to treeline.

Iron Man?

Imagination, good sense of humor, understanding and a wide open mind. Any person that possesses those ingredients has the key to create fantasy and make it into reality in different mediums such as: Film, video, comics, novels, paintings, drawings etc, etc.

The people with the right ingredients have changed the world throughout History under different circumstances but it has happened. Architects, Strategists, Enginners, Inventors, Scientists, Heroes, etc.etc…

Now let’s talk about me, I’m just having fun! 🙂 Why? Because I can and I like it!

Today I’m making a fun comparison of similarities of images or at least a resemblance.

Here they are:

He’s always on top!

Now, now! 😉

Let’s blog a little about the Northern Mockingbird. This bird loves to be on top of things, literally. He always finds the best strategic and high points of certain area under his scrutiny. He’s the top gun and I suspect that he’s the one that sounds the alarm when the hawks are somewhere around.

I love his cool behavior, he is a gentleman, first he escorts the female, then picks a spot for her to eat and he goes back immediately to the chosen observation point, like a great macho he’s on top.

‘Of course he doesn’t act like a special secret agent even when his pose and garb are impeccably elegant, of course he doesn’t smoke like all secret agents do so he doesn’t leave traceable butts, all he leaves are untraceable piles of doo-doo. 😦

Anyways, I know he’s a great dancer (Pictures posted on October, 9th 2009). Although I’d think his a little narcissistic dancing alone or maybe he might be like Lawrence of Arabia who knows?’

Next I’ve posted some pics of the subject in question, enjoy them!
