What’s Up? – Temperature and Tempers
Temperature and Tempers
After a week with rain and low temperatures, we are enjoying a little bit of sunshine and more acceptable temperatures (40’s-50’s). Despite the unpopular conditions all through the week, my birds were out there to get a chance of getting a decent meal. We had one day when it rained continued from early morning until night , plus strong winds that blew seeds all over even when they were soggy.
Then we had other days with ice in the morning. However, this conditions did not deter them from coming for seeds.
My fig tree is completely devoid of leaves by now. Other trees are have shed about 60% of their leaves.

I witnessed a confrontation between a Mourning Dove v. my deputy Northern Mockingbird in charge of the backyard. This was something that I had never seen before. Luckily I had my camera and could get some shots.

When birds fuss and fight, it can be interesting, and sometimes amusing. This weekend, I saw a pied-bill grebe go after the toes of another grebe, and the splashing that ensued was something.
What you said is very true. I’ve seen many bird fights through the years, most just last a short time and then just continue their own ways. Thank you, Linda for sharing. 🙂
A lovely weather… and beautiful pictures!
Thank you very much, Indira. 🙂
Send some of your rain over our way HJ we could certainly use it, but not the wind, as we are having fire storms, possibly more today.
Of course! Rain coming up! I wish that rain quench your land and your forests. Take care, my friend. 🙂
A good capture of the dove hoo-ha.
Hoo-ha! Thank you, Tom. 🙂
Awesome action shots of the Dove and Mockingbird, kudos to the Dove for standing strong at its perch! 🙂
Thank you, Donna. This I never expected, I think the mockingbird respected the dove’s boldness. I’ve seen a mockingbird confront a large crow,or charge a hawk 4 times his size. 🙂
Wow, that Mocking Bird will not be fazed!
They argue but they are friends at the end. Thanks, D. 🙂
Doves can get feisty! The Mocker looks a bit surprised. Great captures!
The mockingbird was indeed surprised! Thank you, Lisa. 🙂
Reblogged this on Wolf's Birding and Bonsai Blog.
Mockingbirds are the boss. We have a pair that nests in our neighborhood year round. They were chasing everyone off the feeders even though they don’t eat the seed. My hubby set up a feeder in the backyard with meal worms. Rarely see the mockingbird out front messing with all the other birds.
That’s how they always behave. They also protect the local birds. I like them. Thank you for sharing, Lisa. 🙂
