Red Gallery – Northern Cardinal

Male cardinals vigorously defend their territory. They have been known to attack their reflections in mirrors, windows and chrome. Sometimes they will even attack small red objects they mistake for other males. Females usually sing after males establish territory but before nesting starts. A cardinal’s nest consists of a tightly woven cup of roots, stems and twigs lined with fine grass and hair.” – TPW

  1. Luv these images πŸ™‚ The dominate male in my yard chases the juveniles from the sunflower seed feeder yet he seldom eats one 🐦 ❓ Mr House Finch and Jenny Wren then chases him away so everyone can eat {Titmouse, Chickadee, Song Sparrow, & Juveniles 🐦} It makes mine & Washe cats day just watching them πŸ™‚ The Wren, which I furnish housing, & don’t even eat sunflower seeds, is the smallest, loudest bird in the yard, He rules πŸ˜‰

    • Looks like you have a happy backyard too! One time I called the Carolina Wren the Pavarotti of the backyard! Thanks for sharing, WK. πŸ™‚
