Red Gallery – Northern Cardinal
Northern cardinals are preyed upon by a wide variety of predators native to North America, including falcons, all Accipiter hawks, shrikes, bald eagles, golden eagles and several owls, including long-eared owls, and eastern screech owls. Predators of chicks and eggs include milk snakes, coluber constrictors, blue jays, eastern gray squirrels, fox squirrels, eastern chipmunks,Β and domestic cats.

Wow, what a long list of predators, I had no idea. Always a joy to visit the Red Gallery, HJ, and these cardinal photos are truly beautiful. Great post, as always, thank you.
You’re welcome my friend, any time. Thank you for your visit. π
Lovely images, HJ! I especially love the first one! π
Thank you Donna! I appreciate it. π
Poor birds being chased by so many predators.
On top of it, they have to deal with me for pictures! π Thank you Susan!
Rich colours and lovely birds!! Sad to know about the long list of enemies of these cute ones…
The best thing to do is not to think that it happens in all levels of the food chain. Thank you Indira, you are a compassionate person. π
Very cute!
Thanks Urzre! π
I especially like the first image, HJ. It is a long list of predators for this attractive bird!
Thank you very much Chris! Ahoy! π
