What’s Up? – Cold shake!

Cold shake!

Last week has been a bit unusual when it comes to weather. Last Monday we had a 2 hour delay for Schools and Government Institutions, ordered by our Governor of Georgia. The reason for this delay was, the considerable drop in weather temperatures after having several days of rain, it was expected to be frozen at early morning. Many roads being still flooded if they freeze, would be potentially, extremely dangerous. Then, by 3:oo pm it was sunny and low 50’s F!

On Wednesday,  at 4:34 am a 4.4 magnitude earthquake rattled Georgia! And, we had frost covering everything. How weird can it get?

By noon all the frost was gone, the sun was shining and the temperature is near 40º F. For my son Tyler it was a great experience, it was his first time to sense an earthquake!

I was glad to see a Purple Finch for the first time in my backyard!

  1. Congratulations on the Purple Finch. I’m sure she was happy to find you after the earthquake. We had a similar weather pattern yesterday on a smaller scale. Frost can be so dangerous, but luckily it melts quickly. 🙂

    • Thank you Lisa! It was a surprise to see a purple finch in my backyard. I have several families of house finch nesting here (12 years). Never a purple finch. 🙂

  2. Glad we are not the only ones having crazy weather. It is so unseasonably wet here and wild storms have destroyed the hope of many birds having a clutch this year. Happy Christmas HJ and thanks so much for your most interesting posts throughout the year, I enjoyed learning about your birds😊

  3. Nothing as exciting as seeing a new bird in your garden. We’ve lived here for thirty years and I was present for the fifteen seconds that a Treecreeper was in the garden. Unless, of course, they are deliberately avoiding me…..
