Here and There

A large percentage of my backyard’s bird population have left to warmer areas. Our crazy Autumn has turned into a mixture of Winter-Autumn weather. Some mornings are very cold, showing frost all over, then melt away and warm up to a Spring kind of weather.  We have not had rain for 2 or 3 weeks. The lack of rain water depletes our water reservoirs, it’s leading to a seasonal drought to make things worse.

Not all birds can adjust to colder temperatures for long periods of time, those, move south to find warmer environments, I don’t blame them at all!. Other birds are  prepared to endure colder temperatures genetically and adjust flawlessly.

I have noticed a bit more activity on part of Hawks, they are constantly on sight and looking for prey. I imagine that the lack of rodents, birds and other creatures translates to making changes in raptor’s dietary needs thus their hunting routines change also!
