  1. Lovely portrait, HJ. Your dark-eyed juncos have a darker, more contrasting hood than ours. In the winter we get the d-e juncos from the U.S. NW and they are less contrasting. Interesting how variable this species is.

    • Yes, you’re right Jet, I’ve noticed that not only juncos but other birds have a more contrasty plumage in the North East vs. the NW. It might be their amount of pigments absorbed through their dietary ingest (influenced in their genes already). Your observations are accurate. Thank you my friend! 🙂
