Mallard Ducks
Mallard ducks are found in most of the ponds in Georgia, so it wasn’t rare to found some at the park’s pond that we visited last Sunday. Some of them were molting the wings, actually most were swimming around and approaching any person that got close to the edge of the pond, the reason, visitors bring bread drums to feed the ducks!
The Mallard is a dabbling duck which breeds throughout the temperate and subtropical Americas, Europe, Asia, and North Africa, and has been introduced to New Zealand, Australia, Peru, Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, the Falkland Islands and South Africa.
This species is the ancestor of most breeds of domestic ducks.

The Mallards that have come to the salt marsh recently are molting too! It’s a global phenomenon 😀
They molt and get over with the process before the migration. Once with the new plumage they’ll start eating well and gathering strength to be ready for they long migration flight to the south. Thank you for sharing Tiny! 🙂
