A friend a few miles away has had a Red-Bellied Woodpecker through the winter. She questions why it is up here and wonders if he questions what in the world he was doing up here with the kind of winter we’ve had.
Although birds has the sense of migrating in their genes, they can make a calculated decision and stay in a place where they find comfortable and easy to find what they like to eat. Other are just vagrants without a definite pattern of travel. Thank you Judy for sharing, I appreciate it! 🙂

I think my migration habits are somewhere between the two.
