Field Sparrows
The warmer weather temperature is like magic for the birds. They appear from everywhere and are in a frenzy for the goodies at the feeders. One of the bird species that I see in larger numbers are the Field Sparrows.
These little guys are all over going around from one feeder to the next and sometimes they get into “everything go” fight between them. I just enjoy myself looking at those little birds trying to defend their chance to eat some seeds at any cost. Of course there are no injuries at all maybe some sore egos but that’s how far they go.
The Field Sparrows were not many during the last season but now somehow got more numerous, which it’s quite alright with me.
I love it when I see these birds flying in all directions from the feeders to the trees and back, it is busy traffic.
My seed supplier is Sam’s Club and for the first time it has ran out of seeds and they are waiting for deliveries that have been delayed because some roads were snowed out or detoured by the weather hazardous conditions. Sometimes truckers have to wait for roads to be cleaned and being safe.
I’ve gone twice to the store and they are still waiting for deliveries. Besides, people have been buying large quantities as soon as the weather got sunny.

I’ve never experienced a store running out of seed, I’d imagine that’s got you and the neighborhood of birds in a flutter. Enjoyed your post, HJ, as always. 🙂
I was very surprised since Sam’s Club usually gets supplies by the truckload. We spoke to the Manager and he told us about the delivery delays. I had to buy smaller quantities in other stores to use ’til Sam’s Club gets restocked. Thank you Jet! 🙂
Sorry about the shortage of seed, loved your gallery.
That’s ok I’m buying something similar but more expensive! Thanks Susan! 🙂
Nice to see a good crowd of sparrows.
Thanks Tom! 🙂
A lovely gallery of this sweet-looking bird. I hope the new delivery of seed comes soon.
Just about 4 hours ago I got 2- 40lbs. bags. The Manager was nice to keep them aside for me. I wasn’t the only customer waiting! Thanks Clare! 🙂 Kiss for you!
super!
Thanks a lot Alois! 🙂
I love when the birds come out in the warm weather too! Hope they get the supplies soon so you can refill ! 🙂
I got them today! Thanks Neha! 🙂
Yay! I am glad!
Glad in your comments, you said the seed arrived! Your feathered friends are quite thankful, I’m sure. Beautiful shots, HJ! 🙂
Yes I got them and they’ll be eating their favorite seeds! Thanks Donna! 🙂
I hope they get the seeds in soon, so your little visitors won’t get hungry! Happy you’ve had some warmer weather!
I got the seeds today! The nice weather will change tonight and will be very cold tomorrow morning below zero wind chill in the forecast. Another cold spell. Rats! Thanks Tiny! 🙂
Wonderful gallery of shots, loved them all! I am having a hard time identifying the different sparrows. Any advice, H.J? I received a new Sibley’s field guide for Christmas but am thinking of ordering a Stokes. I heard they are full of photos that are more helpful.
I live in Georgia which is the Eastern Atlantic Migrating Flyway so I use The Crossley Guide for Eastern Birds mainly. I have other guides and books for other areas or Countries. About 26 books. And even having those I have to consult other sources many times. I know I’m probably not helping you. Just go slow and learn the key features to ID the species and then you’ll be closer to get to know exactly what bird it is. Thanks Amy! 🙂
It is a lot of work! 🙂 I have also been using the Cornel lab’s site “All about birds.org” and it is a great source of information. Thanks for the tips, H.J!
