First Day of the Year

Today is the first day of the year 2015. What’s going on in my backyard? What I can say is that some birds species still hang around instead of migrating they have decided to build their nests and brave the winter out… I guess bird life continues, normally regardless of the cold temperatures. When it comes to seed consumption, I’ve noticed that is down about 50% mostly due to lesser number of birds coming to the feeders, however,  the variety of species is not too shy. This is the list of birds that I’ve seen in my backyard lately:

  • Field Sparrow
  • Northern Cardinal
  • Northern Mockingbird
  • Carolina Chickadee
  • Carolina Wren
  • Song Sparrow
  • Mourning Dove
  • Cooper’s Hawk
  • White-throated Sparrow
  • Eastern Towhee
  • Tufted Titmouse
  • American Crow
  • Blue Jay

  1. I have decided to keep a list of bird species for 2015. A friend gave me a pretty journal to keep my list in, and I’ve started this morning with 9 species so far. 🙂 Happy New Year, H.J., and happy birding!

  2. What a lovely list. And photos to go with it. I may have to move south. The most interesting bird I saw in my yard (well, flying over it) the past week was a Sharp-Shinned Hawk. Have no idea if it ever drops in for a visit. Keep up the good work! Happy 2015!

  3. Sending you and your beautiful family every good wish for a lovely 2015, H.J. I have so very much enjoyed your wonderful posts, I love your superb bird photographs, they lighten my day. God bless, Eily x

    • Thank you so much my dear Eily! Of course I also wish you a healthy and spiritual year 2015! G-d bless you and your loving family! 🙂
