Chilly Junco
I was surprised to see some birds going for food at the feeders yesterday, it was very cold and the wind chill made it even colder at 19ºF! I a variety of birds but I photographed only a few. The day looked bright but it was indeed deceiving because it was very cold!
However, birds were hungry and ate like any other day. Another surprise was to see American Goldfinches and Brown-headed Cowbirds! I would’ve thought they were gone to migration by now.
It was nice to have a Dark-eyed Junco in my backyard again. By the way, there’s a Cooper’s Hawk coming back more often lately. Must be more difficult for raptors to catch prey since most rodents and snakes go hibernating. So far this bird has been very skittish and hard to photograph. I don’t like it when they return too often.

Nice shots. Funny today I published a photo of a bird. Keep shooting!
Thank you very much Tulio! 🙂
A good display when it is so cold.
Thanks Susan, today was record lowest in many years. We had thick frost. 🙂
Those birds are so lucky to have your smorgasbord in those cold temperatures. Great photos too, HJ. 🙂
Thank you very much Jet! 🙂
Beautiful.
Thanks Cee! 🙂
lovely little junco.
Thanks Kathy! 🙂
Brrrrr!! That’s cold! The hawk says that the bird table is for him too – though he just wants to eat the guests!
Unfortunately that’s the Law of Wild. I hope the Hawks turn vegan! Thanks Clare! Today’s temperature broke records low. 🙂
I hope that you get a good shot of the hawk but that it is on an infrequent visit when you catch it.
It just matter of time, I’ll be more prepared. Thanks Tom! 🙂
Sweet, sweet, sweet, HJ! 🙂 Love the two little goldfinches perched on the feeder!
Thanks a lot A.! 🙂
