ANSWER TO SUNDAY QUIZ
Can you ID this bird?
ANSWER: Snowy Egret
At one time, the beautiful plumes of the snowy egret were in great demand by market hunters as decorations for women’s hats. This reduced the population of the species to dangerously low levels.
Now protected in the United States by law, under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, this bird’s population has rebounded.

It is wonderful how abundant the egrets are now, thanks for the reminder, HJ. Really awesome photo. 🙂
Thank you Jet! They’re beautiful birds! 🙂
Thank you, HJ! Out here in India, we see Egrets mostly in bird sanctuaries or maybe in rural areas! 🙂
There are many species of egrets in the world, this Snowy Egret was hunted for its beautiful feathers almost to the point of extinction. Now they are abundant again. Happy ending story! 🙂 Thanks A.
We have egrets in this area, but not the snowy one! I do’t think ours have such beautiful legs, colour-wise.
Thank you Barbara for sharing! 🙂
