Too tricky fro me to identify so thanks for your answer.
Thank you Susan! 🙂
Thank you, HJ! 🙂
Thank you for participating A.! 🙂
I thought so! My Q; is it normal for an immature female to have loose or twisted feathers. Do females or their mate remove feathers for nesting materials? Or, as we have seen upon occasion in our yard…could she have been fortunate enough to have thwarted an attempt of capture by a hawk? Do you have any insight you’d care to share? btw, phenom photos!
Unfortunately non of your hypothesis apply in this case, this effect I’ve seen and photographed several times in the past. The simplest reason for seeing this effect: Vertical draft of air hit upward. That’s it! What it causes the feather to separate and the down feather to expand. Pretty cool eh? 🙂
totally!
You’re welcome HJ, the pleasure is all mine, Thank you! 🙂
I did recognise, but felt enough had answered correctly! Delightful photo!
Yes, that was great Barbara! Thank you! 🙂
Cardinals are common here, so I knew the bird. She does look like she is having a bad hair day though.
That was caused by the wind! Thank you Donna! 🙂
