Sky Tears

My hopes for working outdoors mowing my lawn dissipated quickly because has rained most of the night and Thursday too! It wasn’t good for shooting pictures either. Not because any lack of birds but for I not wanting to shoot pictures of birds looking soaked and wet. That would be unfair and offensive to their beauty. But the rain did not deter them from showing up to the feeders and filling their guts. Actually I should reconsider what I just said. They eat more because the will be regurgitating it to their little ones (hatchlings).

Pictures that I’m posting today were shot before the rain, I shot them in the morning when the sun is rising for best effects.

If you read my next post for tomorrow I’ll be writing about the new fledglings and will show pictures of some of them. I’m sure you will like them.

Going back to today, I have the feeling that we’ll be having rain the rest of the day, the sky is overcast and dark, meaning that there’s still plenty of water to be delivered.

I’m going to work on getting my Hummingbird feeder ready and if I have a chance to go outside without getting soaked I’ll install it too.

Hummingbirds might not show up yet but I though I saw one flying over the other day. Could have been an insect, it was too far to be sure.

I bought plenty of seed for the rest of birds, I got also some the instant powder nectar for the hummingbirds, all I have to do is add water and stir it up and viola!

The metal stand where I hang the nectar feeder is going to need some repair. I’ll bring it in my garage and work on it. There’s always something to be done around here, and everything cost so much now!

    • Thanks Lisa! Oh yes, if you don’t do PM to the feeders etc. will rot, decay, rust or will be rejected by the birds. 🙂

  1. It has been rain, rain, rain, rain here for most of this week. :/ So much standing water, it will make it hard for the farmers to get into their fields to plant. The beagles have not had their walk in days due to the flooding out back. I saw two hummingbirds on Tuesday – one poking around the crabapple tree out my kitchen window and one at the school where I teach, also on a flowering tree. I need to get my hummingbird feeder out, too!

    • The rain stopped and the sun shone, it was breeze but I mowed only half of the lawn (front) yesterday I repaired the stand for the hummingbirds feeder and installed it with feeder, nectar and all! Fixed another feeder and moved of location. Between yesterday and today, my days have been very productive.
I also shot some good pictures! 🙂

  2. I am glad you have your priorities right, HJ ! 🙂 About that instant nectar: http://wp.me/p3ZISx-Y8
and at the end of the video the lad posts about knowing he had to include some insect bits in what he fed her … Would you pronounce upon this, please, m’dear ?

    • I find that not being necessary. Since what they need is nectar because its content of sugar and water and possibly the taste of fruit. The rapid movement of their wings burn many calories which they need to replenish. It’s estimated that they eat about several times their own weight daily. They do not fly all the time as most people think, they do sit every so many minutes and preserve their energy. Their nights are the most vulnerable because they sleep with their energy at the lowest point and lower their heart beats, they will have energy left only to wake up and start a short fly and start feeding ready for another day! 🙂

  3. I think that birds soaked by the rainfall would be an amazing shot, and probably a little humorous as well. But I would not be laughing AT them, just at their adorkable qualities. Regardless, your photography is, as always, stunning.
