Surprise Visitors

It has been a while since I had a pair of American Goldfinch visitors in my backyard! Such beautiful birds, with the golden bright yellow plumage and black cap and wings as contrast.

It was a great treat for me that I didn’t expect. Sometimes I see the fly by but never stop at my feeders and this time I saw them picking some seeds and even cut bread with a Northern Cardinal. That was quite remarkable! I shot a whole bunch of pictures, some of which I’m sharing with you today!

  1. Congratulations! Nice pictures too – especially the one “breaking bread” with the cardinal. I have had more goldfinches in the last few weeks than I’ve had all year and they are devouring thistle and my sunflowers, so they must be hungry; I suspect with the drought, they’re relying more on feeders this year.

    • Thank you Lisa for sharing! I just like you, suspected something similar, because they hardly ever stop to eat from my feeders. Most times I just see them flying by. Poor things! 🙂

  2. Goldfinches really brighten up a yard. They’ve come and gone from our thistle sock throughout the summer. RIght now, they’re gone, but the house finches are always present.
