I Have a Question for You

I’m totally intrigued about a duck that I saw swimming in the pond at a park last Monday.

It’s not what kind of duck what intrigues me but what appears to be wing feathers sticking up on each flank of the duck. It’s the very first time I see this mode on a duck.

If you do know anything about this matter, not a guess but with certainty I beg you let me know. I’ve been looking all over on the Web and I couldn’t find any references about that. Thank you in advance!

  1. It almost looks like a cross between an American Black Duck and a Black-Bellied Whistling Duck. I’m sure it is a hybrid of some sort. As for the feathers sticking up, I don’t know! Maybe it helps dabbling.

  2. I thought too it looks like it has at least black duck in it’s mix. My thought on the wings flared, maybe he’s strutting his stuff around the females? It couldn’t possibly be molting, could it? Not at same place on both wings at same time, guess that doesn’t make sense. I’m curious to know if you find out!
