Red-headed Woodpecker

For any blog readers that are not familiar with the Red-headed Woodpecker, I bring you some pictures from previous seasons. So far they’re not yet back to this area but I consider that is kind of early in the season yet.

These birds are as you can see, beautiful, their striking colors are bright and well defined. Their beaks as for all woodpeckers, is long and very hard, enough to poke and bore holes in the wood.

I had the Red-headed Woodpeckers coming to my backyard for over three Springs. I’m sure they’ll show up any time.

  1. How lucky you are to have all these wonderful visitors to your yard Av. I look forward to more pictures of this years visit 🙂

  2. Up until two months ago, I had never seen a woodpecker of any type here in San Diego. Then I went birding with the San Diego Beginning Birders and the place where we went, Lake Hodges, I saw about 30 acorn woodpeckers in 30 minutes. Now I see acorn woodpeckers everywhere I go! Maybe it’s just that my eyes are more in tune to them.

    • What you’re saying is true, I can see birds and other people can not. The reasons are that I ‘m as you said in tune to their shape and colors. Good comment Russ, I hope other people pick up on that!
