Hot Stuff!

Actually I want to mention a few words about the terrible heat wave punishing the NorthEast and now parts of the SouthEast. The heat creates problems for many birds species also not only for humans.

Birds spend a lot of energy when they fly, the fact that they beat their wings so many times demand more calories and nutrients as fuel. For example: A Hummingbird generally eats 9 times his own weight every 24 hours! Because they beat their wings at incredible speed, therefor consume more energy. However in cases of larger birds, they can be more efficient with their girth and wing span, they initially consume more energy but once they get aloft they can glide and maintain fly  and lift utilizing warmer air currents consuming less or no energy.

Temperature affects the birds equally than humans, limiting their capacity of activity. Most birds wait for moments when the feeders get shaded by clods, trees etc. You can see great activity very early in the morning and very late in the afternoon or sundown.

I beg you people to keep in cooler places or if you are outdoors look for shaded areas. Drink plenty fluids and keep hydrated. Do not leave your pets in locked cars! Keep yourself safe. You hear! 🙂
