Yesterday and today have been hard-working days for me, still digging holes and planting also making modifications to my backyard_ each day that passes it looks better and better.
Lots of birds are starting to visit our feeders and birdhouses, such us:
This is my list for now, I expect to see more species hopefully as soon as the better weather is more consistent, so far is cold in the morning then warms up around noon. See you soon!
The weather is so nice today! It’s in the lower 70’s and bright. I see a lot of bird activity around the backyard, the feeders are busy today. I’ve noticed an abundance of Brown-headed Cowbirds. Those birds are voracious, as soon as they hit the feeder they start eating and stay eating for long time. Most other birds only pick some seeds and go. Oh well! 🙂
Yesterday I worked on my backyard so much, don’t ask me about my back pain! 😦 But do you know what? It was worth all that extra exercise. I planted many azaleas plants, small and large, I put up another feeder hanging on wroth-iron hanger, plus other lawn work. The weather was about mid 60’s and sunny. I felt good doing it even when at night I felt achy and tired.
I saw the Tufted Titmouse again and I had a chance to get some pictures this morning, I had other visitors too. I have some pictures for you next. I hope you will like them.
Purple Finch, sp. name: “Carpodacus purpureus”
Description:
Purple finches are large and chunky, with conical strong beak, larger in size than sparrow’s.
Males are delicate pink-red on the head and breast, mixed with brown on the back.
Females have no red, they are brownish in color and coarsely streaky below.
They are frequent visitors at feeders in urban areas inclusive.
My personal impression from my observing their behavior is that they are a bit aggressive with other birds at the feeder.
They have many similarities with the House Finch.
