Aggressive bird!

A couple of days ago I was observing the birds going about the feeders, among the few going around I saw a N. Mockingbird chasing most birds away from the grapes I placed on the ground near the feeding area. Later I saw this Mockingbird hopping around the grassy slope to our creek then I saw something that surprised the hell out of me. The Mockingbird picked a small vole, shook and tossed it around that was all he diid. Didn’t eat it, just killed it I guess. What was that? I’ve seen that behavior in hawks and crows but never such aggressiveness in a Mockingbird.

Have any of you seen that before? Let me know.

Grapes

N. Mockingbird eating grapes

It occurred to me that since we had a lot of grapes, it might be a good idea to leave them by the bird feeders. For a few days there were no takers, until the N. Mockingbird showed up. They really love grapes!

I shot one picture this morning while a Mockingbird was eating. I’m very glad that helped them get some nourishment. For a while he would not allow any other bird get close to the grapes.

Yesterday the weather brought us a little bit of snow in our area of Georgia. Not like the MidWest!

It was very windy also and remained cold enough to rather be indoors.

I saw some birds at the feeders at different times of the day,

  • Northern Cardinal
  • Red -headed woodpecker
  • Mourning Dove
  • Carolina Chickadee
  • Field Sparrow
  • Song Sparrow
  • Northern Mockingbird
  • Brown=headed Cowbird

Hello Folks!

It feels so good to post some more stuff on my Blog! I’ve been very busy with many other things happening in my life that had very little time left to blog. I still take pictures and take care of the feeders etc. but I also have been oil painting, yes, I’m an artist and divide my time in many part wearing many hats. But enough about me.

The weather has been on the cold side and windy for the past few weeks, one day we had a tornado touched ground just 4 or 5 miles from us. Now we have low temperatures and is frosted every morning.

The birds feed when the sun is high and warms a bit. I’ve seen these birds lately:

  • Brown-headed Cowbirds
  • Northern Cardinals
  • Carolina Chickadees
  • Northern Mockingbirds
  • Field Sparrows
  • Song Sparrows
  • Mourning Doves

Here are some pictures for you:
