Odds and Ends

If you are a photographer of birds, it’s not unusual to bump into oddities of different types. For example, day before yesterday I photographed a young male Northern Cardinal that most likely is semi leucistic (lacking plumage pigment). He seems to be in perfect physical health. I’ll keep an eye on him to see if any variations develop while he grows older. He’s part of the cardinal’s clan nesting all over my backyard. See the photos below and give me your opinion.

Rumbustious Lot

The bird with long legs, big feet, weird white eyes, intense glance, angry looking appearance is called Common Grackle.

In reality is only a clumsy, oddly built noisy bird.

Known to land and perch itself to any feeder whether small or large and create a complete mess because they move around too much, actually I’m saying “they” due to the fact that this bird rarely flies around alone. When ever you see one grackle you will see other near by, never alone.

To tell you the truth I’ve become accustomed to them and they amuse me. I also love to observe their social behavior round other species of birds as well as with their own.

One thing I’ve noticed is, when it comes to parenthood they are in total care of the fledglings.

I’m posting some shots of them while they visit my backyard.

Just Like with Celebrities!

There are many “behind the scenes” situations with birds in my backyard just as it happens with Hollywood celebrities. This inspired me to post some photos of birds “without make-up” It’s just for fun of course.

You should know that I post only a fraction of the amount of photos I shoot almost daily, I’m like a paparazzo trying to get the best shots for my blog, that alone allows me to pick whatever will be used to feature on the post and for the rest, I keep a large archive of bird photos for future posts. You must not forget that I blog daily so I’m in need to have enough material to work with.

All this is not so bad, considering that I  have a normal life to live and many other things to attend. Being involved with the bird photography and blogging has given me a great way to enrich my spiritual life (No $$$)  and live tis one with plenty to think and do.

Without further ado, here are the photos for today’s blog!

Where are the Blackbirds?

Through the Spring and Summer so far, I have seen a minimum amount of blackbirds compared to previous years. I know the seasons have been weird lately I guess that possibly makes a change for birds migration and mating chronology. I can understand that, is like when people from the north of USA go to Florida for winter, something of the sort.

From the blackbirds family I get to see often in my backyard are the Red-winged Blackbirds, featured today on this post.

They are a bit crazy and a bit clumsy because of their size but they big for eating for sure!

I love their shoulder bright plumage, especially when they get mad, their red feathers flash a rich bright flaming red.

Very cool stuff! 🙂
