This particular post is about the Ruby-throated Hummingbird. They are not yet present in my town but I’m posting some pictures from my archives.
I usually do not post on request but this time is an exception. This bird has caused certain impression to a dear friend follower that lives far, far away like somewhere in Australia. Her name is too long to write it so we all know her as M-R. and believe me when I say people know her.
Smart, intelligent, sharp, artistic, magnetic personality, good looking… ok, enough about me! She’s a wonderful person that always gets what she wants or you will suffer the consequences of her literary wrath!
Besides, who’s going to say no to such sweet lady!… (Are you grinning?).
Well, to make a long story short (for my blogging is usually the way around), the birds that you’re going to see are very small and weigh an average of 5 grams! They are extremely fast fliers and can easily hover or fly backwards. I love those little birds, they are the birds that have touched my feelings more than any other.
M-R, this small gallery is dedicated to you!

The fact that I post on two blogs daily, sometimes gets a bit hectic because other matters that I have to do. Photography also involves time so does the processing of what I shot. All these is supposedly to be done on my free time. I’ve been managing very well for a few years already, besides, I’m a dedicated worker that is used to keep busy at all times. It happens that sometimes there’s not enough time to write a story to go with the photos I post on my blog.
I do not write about other people or family stuff as a rule. I want it to be mostly about birds but with a bit of a twist about other matters in order to make it a tad more interesting.
– “The other day I was in the kitchen looking at the birds through the window when suddenly one of the birds flew straight at me and hit the window! It wasn’t the first time that I’ve seen a bird hit a glass door or window pane but this time it came straight at me. I went outside quickly and found the bird on the ground not moving at all, I picked it up and examined her (it was a female cowbird) she wasn’t hurt or bleeding nor any of her limbs was broken. I thought that the poor bird was killed when it hit the window because the lack of movement.
Of a sudden the bird just moved and began to struggle in my cupped hand! I opened my hand immediately and there she stood up for a second took a good peck at my finger and flew away!”
True story, she was most likely knocked out by hitting the window and awoke in my hand and got scared. Then she pecked my finger as a defensive reaction.
“People reacts funny sometimes when you try to help them and snap at you instead of saying thank you. Has it ever happened to you?”

It is so interesting to watch birds and take pictures but it’s even more so them after have found their mates and are couples, then you can see how dedicated to each other they become. Right from the very start of the courtship, mating, finding of a suitable place to build their nest, the laying of eggs, the incubation, the hatching, the fledging of the new birds and hence the continuation of the species. All these steps of the process are simply fascinating!
I’ve observed with deep admiration the behavior of the new parents (birds), the total dedication to their new family safety and nurture right to the moment when they are able and strong enough continue the learned steps for survival from their parents and therefore be themselves independent.
The behavior learned from birds versus human behavior toward parenthood pales in comparison!
It takes only minutes to see this by reading the news daily! It’s a shame!
“It makes me really sad!”
