The sudden changes in our weather called for a new mode of shooting my pictures. I have to accommodate my shooting schedules according to the weather conditions such as shooting whenever is a break from rain or dark cloudy hours. My photo sessions are limited to only a few minutes, that is if I’m not busy with other kind of work.
I will post some pictures and add some short commentary about them, it’s the best I can do at the moment. I hope that you will understand.
Session # 1
Just as I have mentioned previously, some American Goldfinches are coming to the feeders more often and seems to me that they like my backyard enough to stay around for a while.
Session # 2
This Northern Cardinal became subject of this session after I noticed that it’s missing her right foot, she is not actually injured, her stump is totally healed and she’s undergoing molting at this time. She has a peculiar way to perch, reason why it called my attention but despite her handicap she is active and my opinion is that she will thrive living a normal life. Go girl!
Session # 3
Not much to say of a single Carolina Chickadee busy as always especially after some rain.
Then I was a bit surprised to see a female Brown-headed Cowbird by herself and young in age. She might be a juvenile hatched in a surrogate nest. What do you think?

Here we are with some dramatic changes in our local weather most likely caused by the Tropical Storm Erika in parts of Florida and the Gulf of Mexico. We have had cooler as much as dark days and sporadic rain. Nothing that could help shooting pictures or seeing many birds. They simply resort to be sheltered and not to be opposed to the weather elements, I don’t blame therm! We had a couple of those really gloomy and desolate days in my backyard, rain ruins most of the seeds placed in feeders and everything outdoors gets soaked. Even the nectar juice for hummingbirds gets ruined because rain water seeps in the bottle and the juice gets watery in excess. When we get breaks from the rain, some birds return to the feeders and I have to supply some fresh seeds because the previous ones are soggy and not very appetizing to most birds. Not very much to trite about.
I”ll shoot some pictures if I get enough opportunity and bird quorum. So far It’s been a bit slow of bird activity, only have a few fresh pictures to show for this post. ( And maybe 40K in my archives)

Our weather temperatures have decreased in the past few days to a moderate mid 80’s as the high and mid 50’s in the early morning. The humidity is remaining high. I see the Northern Cardinal families very active in the backyard, some of their adults birds are in the middle of their molting process and on the other hand, the new generation Cardinals are growing fast and looking very nice. Some of these families are my local birds which don’t migrate for winter.
My beautiful American Goldfinches have been active lately. I suspect that are starting to find their mates and it would please me very much if they ever decide to nest here and stay. Can you just imagine when each of the couples hatch at least five eggs, next my backyard would be looking like a “gold mine”. Yeah! A “gold rush” in Georgia!
Believe me, the Carolina Chickadee are also very active starting very early in the morning and then going back and forth carrying sunflower seeds to the trees area. That could mean one thing… preparing for the next 2 seasons! These birds are small little machines full of energy and they will work hard to have their nests secure and well provided of food. Great little birds!
Note: This bonus report comes from my front porch butterfly bush, it’s a Tiger Swallowtail butterfly, these are large size beauties. I hope that you like this week’s bonus.
