Special Places # 75

Cuzco – Peru – Part # 1

The fortress was the largest structure built by the Incas. It was constructed on an elevated rocky promontory facing the northern marshy ground outside the Inca capital of Cuzco. Pottery finds indicate that the site had previously been occupied by Inca residents.

1 – This is the fortress of Sacsayhuaman built by the Incas using enormous stones. The shape of the whole fortress is the mouth of a leopard with big teeth.

2 – Part of the city of Cuzco was built by the Spanish conquistadors on top of walls built by the Incas. The photo shows one large and heavy stone with 12 angles. On one of the many cobbled streets in the city of Cuzco.

3 – In one of the ends of the fortress, there are carved tiers on slate left by erosion left by the Glaciers Age. Used as platform foe the Inca’s throne. Of course, it was all covered on gold plating.

4 – A rocky monument in Khenko. Near the city of Cuzco.

5 – Some other Gracier’s Age erosions used by children to play sliding.

6 – View from across the field within the perimeter of the fortress.

7 – See the walls of the fortress built with huge stones of granite that weigh many tons.

8 – On one corner of the wall there’s a snake carved on the stone.

9 – Every year was celebrated the famous Into Raimi or the Holiday of the Sun (God of the Incas) The city of Cuzco still keeps the this holiday every year to remember old Incas.
