What’s Up? – Feeding in the Rain…
Feeding in the Rain… Tra-la-la
The past week has been a wet one! It has rained copiously for long periods of time, with few breaks in between only to get a drop in temperature until the next one.
I felt sorry for the poor birds that were most likely hungry and had little chance to eat any seeds… the heavy rain washed the seeds away from the feeders. I went looking for a better way to feed them and found a circular shaped suet, mixed with a variety of seeds. The rain can’t dissolve the suet since is based in animal fat. I tried It and gave good results! The suet mix is more expensive than buying seeds that I currently use for my birds, but I’ll use it only for heavy rain days.
I was happy to see many N. Cardinals and a group of A. Goldfinches and other avian friends very excited for their meals.

Immagini davvero speciali di piccole creature che respirano la vita!
Un saluto,silvia
Respirano e ci deliziano immensibilmente. Grazie mille Silvia! 🙂
Yay sunshine again! The birds look excited for your buffet! 🙂
Thank you my friend! 🙂
That suet ring’s a good idea. It occurs to me that it might work in my situation, too — where I’m trying to discourage pigeons and encourage songbirds. I can’t imagine pigeons could work over a suet ring, although they certainly would try!
Most definitely will work, the doves tried and couldn’t manage it. You can get the suet rings at Walmart. 🙂
Beautiful gallery!
Thank you Indira! 🙂
Good plan! Rain is inevitable, after all, and our feathered friends are still hungry!
That’s why I have to think of better ways to feed those feathered friends. Thanks K. 🙂
You are very thoughtful.
Thanks Tom! 🙂
I always feel bad for our birds when it rains, H.J. Some of our feeders actually have a little roof, a dome-shaped plastic cover made of clear plastic, and I always have to smile when the finches and sparrows gather underneath it. You might be able to find something similar in a birding supply shop.
Using open feeders serves two purposes: 1-They eat their meals. 2- I shoot pictures. Preferable if they pose in natural settings, therefore the photos I display on my blog. Thank you for sharing Tanja. 🙂
