What’s Up? – Golden Opportunity

Golden Opportunity

The Spring’s breeding time is in full force, couples of birds are obvious in their hormonal activity. The air is full of love…and pollen!

There’s a Swallow trying to get in my open window!  Most likely to be a Rough-winged Swallow. A few years ago I had a nest of these swallows in my dryer’s vent, they had pulled a veneer of it and built a nest in it, we actually didn’t know this until we had problems with the dryer because when the vent is clogged the hot air backs up and the machine has a device to automatically shuts off the when temperature reaches certain limit. The device has to be replaced every time it trips.  We finally solved the problem. However, I never got a picture of them!

Among my visitors, I have had the pleasure to have a group of American Goldfinches, flitting around the backyard and partaking meals with the rest of local birds.

I also should mention that we are enjoying admiring our flowers, our grass lawns are getting  green and trees are almost filled with new leaves.

    • These are Goldfinches (Finches) The swallow mentioned was a different story. 🙂 Thank you Ashley! 🙂

  1. Love the Swallow story, wish you had gotten photos! Gorgeous American Goldfinch captures, HJ, they are always exciting and pleasing to the eye. In addition to the best backyard bird buffet you provide, looks like you also have a wonderful green thumb. 🙂

    • Thank you Donna! …about the swallow, seems like I spoke too soon. The problem happened last year. I went and took a look after I wrote the post and saw that the vent is occupied again! They didn’t break the veneer, they got smarter and learned how to open and shut the darned thing! Rats!!
Give credit to my wife about the flowers! 🙂
