  1. Carolina Wrens are indeed fascinating — in Illinois their population rises and falls based on severity of winter. It’s a treat to see and hear a Carolina Wren in northern Illinois, but in southern Illinois, you can hear them constantly singing and chattering in spring and summer.

    • Keep in mind that winter in the north of Illinois is harsh because of the Lake Michigan and that compared to southern Illinois is a difference of several digits in the temperature and wind chill.
