Short Summer Storm

While I’m writing this post, I look out the window and see heavy rain being poured by a summer storm. I’m listening to Addinsell’s Warsaw Concerto.

Although the perfect warm and sunny day darkened because the storm I’m glad because that water will help quench the thirst of all the plants and my lawn will be looking the greenest. Last Monday and Tuesday I spent many hours outside mowing the lawn under the merciless summer sun.

Right after I mow the grass areas I usually expect certain species of birds to show up and have their feast looking for worms and other bugs. A flock of at least 100 European Starlings landed on my lawn and my neighbor’s lawn too. Who called those birds to let them know there’s fresh food, I don’t know but the timing is perfect. Some of them happened to peek around and hit my feeders, luckily not for long, they prefer to forage for worms and insects. Of course I took my camera and shot some pictures.

By now the storm just passed and rain is over. it’s bright, sunny and steamy humid now. It was a good, short but by all means healthy rain.

I can see other birds starting to return to the feeders and see what’s left after the rain and what’s is salvageable and edible. Just another day at HJ’s backyard!

    • This year I’ve seen more Starlings than ever. A lot of bird migrations went erratic because of the weather changes. That might have something to do with it. Thanks Tom! 🙂

  1. And green it certainly appears to be, HJ ! I see that you’re still capturing those extraordinary commencements of flight … You’re amazing.

    • Thanks M-R, birds are amazing creatures that are very interesting in every aspect. One can’t help to live in awe just watching them thrive. 🙂
