The Woo Woo Kid

Spring is in full effect despite some cool breezes that once in a while makes us raise one eyebrow. Anyway, this is what’s going on in my backyard lately. There are some bird parents that are flying accompanying their fledglings to the feeders more often, while other parents are simply watching from the background how their brood behave by themselves.

There’s another group of parents that carry  seeds in their crop or bills to take to their nests e.g. Carolina Chickadee, Tufted Titmouse, Eastern Towhee, N. Cardinals, C. Grackles, etc.

Then you can see a bunch of Northern Cardinals still playing tag looking for a mate. I’ve seen couples of Northern Mockingbirds too!

Now we get down the list to the Mourning Doves, they are the worse of the group. They are the “freshest” birds I know they disregard  privacy and monogamy.

I shot a series  of pictures in a sequence were this male Mourning Dove ends up “shtooping”  two females one after the other!. Phew!  (Please pardon my french)

“Should we rename these birds to Moaning Doves?”

Here’s the gallery:

  1. Never thought we’d stoop so low. Have you rated this post as NSFW? Adult Content? My wife is a bit upset with you. I can’t keep my hands off her this morning. Please warn me next time you post bird porn!

  2. They certainly seem to be the most … ahh … active in that area, HJ ! – same down here. That must be why they’re all over the bloody place ! 🙂

      • My flat looks over a two-storey business complex across the road; and the pigeons are on the roof almost all the time. If I ever wanted to catch up on woo woo action, I’d only have to cast my eye down there …
The people who own the complex keep trying to get rid of ’em; only works for about a month. [grin]

  3. Very funny! Thank-you HJ. The Wood Pigeons in my garden are the funniest wooers. The males are very graceful at first bowing their heads and spreading out their tail feathers. When they’ve had enough of that they start to make their move on the female by jumping towards her, feet together. She usually carries on eating and ignores him or walks off with him bouncing along behind her – so undignified!
