Junk Food vs. Selected Food
Yesterday was my day of hard work in my backyard. I used the trimmer to level all the weeds of all kinds form the slope that goes in direction of the bottom of the creek. After breakfast I spent like three hours working the “weed whacker” over incline position that killed my waist muscles. It’s a tougher job that the mowing at least for me, the mowing I did after lunch for 2 hours. Exercise stimulate my muscles and makes me feel good. The ache comes later! 🙂
By trimming all those plants and weeds, it will change the “bokeh” that my photos of birds always show, the color will be in the green side now.
I’m so happy to see new leaves starting to emerge form my Midget Crape Myrtle, I love that little tree.
I have some Azaleas flowers pink and white showing their beauty. I also have some Irises that are gorgeous. We’re having a late start for all the flowers and grass but I promise you that they will be just fine later.
My birds are eating so much, every single seed disappear from sight daily. They spill a lot of seeds while they eat but by morning everything looks totally clean. Not one seed on the floor, ground or feeder. Yep!
In the past I used to pick up sacks full of seeds from all the spills from the feeders that doesn’t happen now. From the variety of birds come to my backyard some species eat from feeders exclusively and other birds eat mostly from the ground. This factors help me a lot, it leaves less work for me! 🙂
The quality of seeds has something to do with wasting less, birds are very peculiar about what they eat, they have preferences for the kind of seeds that they ingest and the kind of nourishment that works better to their bodies.
Some seed suppliers add ‘fillers’, foreign seeds that may work on other countries but are not known here, add pieces of granite powder to help the digestion of the bird, and all kinds of ‘garbage’ to add weight only for monetary profit but not for the benefit of the bird.
“Keep an eye on the seeds you buy for your birds and if they do not happily accept them, I suggest you switch to a different brand until you find the right ones”

Nice birds, well done for working so hard in your backyard.
Thanks Susan! It’s hard work but very rewarding at the end! 🙂
Not only is all that yard work good for the muscles, it’s also good for the mental state when you sit back and see everything neat and tidy and looking so lovely! Looks like you caught that female cardinal in a dive. That’s quite a sweet photo of the chipping sparrow.
Thanks a lot Amy! 🙂
Great photos again, H.J. Just a side note. You inadvertantly titled the Northern Mockingbird as a Northern Cardinal. Just a typo on your part that I thought you would like to know.
Thank you very much Bobby! Sometimes I’m in a hurry and get mixed up like this time! I appreciate your help. 🙂
Now, that’s a real ‘feel-good’ post, HJ ! 🙂
That’s the idea! Physical exercise is necessary to tone your muscles that includes heart too. I hope that you do some exercise too, not only counting money all day and blogging your fingerprints away! 🙂
COUNTING MONEY ? Words fail me. I live on the age pension.
You are quite right about seed quality. Some seed mixtures look as though they are a bargain but the birds are discerning creatures and won’t eat poor quality seed unless they have to. Better to shop around, as you say, and even spend a little extra; there will be less waste. More good pictures!
Thank you Clare for agreeing with my opinion. 🙂
You’re making my muscles ache, HJ! lol I used to take care of 2.5 acres with numerous flower beds and know all so well how your muscles feel by nightfall. 🙂
All my friends have the landscaping companies do that work and pay a small fortune for it. I have the largest lot and I do it myself plus I landscape the creek abutting my backyard! I never complain!… just ache like a @#&%!! 🙂
Gardening is good therapy as well. So rewarding 😀
Yes of course Emy! Thanks! 🙂
