Getting to Know HJ

Now that we have more hours of daylight being Spring and all, the amount of birds visiting my feeders is more frequent and the consumption of seeds is up. The amount of birds doesn’t necessarily mean more variety of species, simply more mouths to feed for the usual patrons. The quality of the seeds being consumed are A1 grade and there’s not much left overs at the end of the day, in fact the birds clean up what fell of the feeders too.

I don’t mind if more birds wish to get their meals here, I just wish that more diverse species come and make my day more exciting…whatever!

It’s fun for me and I love shooting pictures, what can I say?

There are a few things I should mention to all of my readers:

  1. – I rarely give a “like” to a reblogged post.
  2. – I opted for not accepting Awards.
  3. – I always reply any comments.
  4. – At the end of my comments I place a smiley 🙂 …That represent me with a friendly smile. Exceptions: No “like” when the post is about something sad, tragic, serious message, nor I place any smiley.
  5. – I love questions and I usually do my best to answer them soon rather than later.
  6. – I do not discuss: Religion, Race, Ethnicity, Politics or Gender.
  7. – I love people with sense of humor and positive attitude!

I’m very proud to have the finest group of followers and readers! I haven’t had any problems… ever! Considering that I started my blogging over 3 years ago! Thank y’all!

  1. Hi,
Happy Spring to you!!… You mention that you would like to see more varieties, which is definitely exciting for one watching birds… Does a mix of grains help? Is there any particular food that some birds like over the others?… I just want to try out and see… I think i’ve seen the more frequent sparrows (field and song), pigeon like birds which you numbered 320…and sometimes some more varieties but nothing very exotic yet…

    • Thank you PS! Same to you. I do use mixes of seeds for the birds that I have coming to my backyard. I’ve tried many premixed wild bird mixes from different Stores, If I see that they lack certain kind of popular seeds I usually buy those and complement the mix with them. Being the main and most bird attracting the sunflower seed that is rich in oil. Of course all depends what kind of birds you’re thinking to attract. Each bird has a favorite but can eat other seeds too. Many birds eat only insects of all kinds, grubs, worms, eggs etc.
The fact that you have mixed seed will definitely attract birds! 🙂

  2. I’m not sure for how long, but I’ve enjoyed your blog for quite some time now, HJ! Your photos, bird facts, humor, book reviews, feeding commitment, and overall compassion for our birds is much appreciated! Thank you from me. BTW I know the birds thank you too!! 🙂

    • Your kindness is infinite and appreciated by this simple man. Did you know that on one of my past posts I mentioned you as:” Donna the queen of the Ospreys”?
In a good way of course! I’m sorry if you didn’t like it. Now I’m at peace! I know that you also love your birds as much as I do. Who else would stop a car in a busy Highway to take a picture of an Osprey? We’re birds of the same feather my dear! 🙂

      • Love my ‘queen’ title! 🙂 Much much better than ‘bird lady’. LOL This morning’s way to work I pulled over and took pics of a male cardinal and great blue heron. My osprey this morning were busy around my balcony, I took some of them too!
Over last part of this winter I bought a big bag of bird seed and put a dish out during the snows and enjoyed so much watching my visitors and taking photos (of which I never got to post). I thought of you and your birds. Yes we are, HJ, birds of the same feather! 🙂

  3. Your ‘success’ with us may have – but I say only ‘may’! 😉 – something to do with the content you post, HJ, as well as the quality. Whaddya reckon ? [grin]

  4. I think you are terrific, H.J., but I must say I think your previous post has spoiled me just a bit — I missed your creative, funny bird captions this time! 🙂 I know, I know, it can’t all be fun and games. 😀

    • Why can’t be fun and simple happiness, nobody said that we have to feel miserable. I quote myself: “Death is a drama, therefore life must be a comedy”- HJ 🙂

      • Every morning my husband puts out bird feed. We mostly have trees indigenous to South Africa and have a range of bird life. I particularly enjoy the Wood hoopoes and crested Barbettes. This is not to reduce the status of the less flamboyant birds 🙂
