Odds and Ends
If you are a photographer of birds, it’s not unusual to bump into oddities of different types. For example, day before yesterday I photographed a young male Northern Cardinal that most likely is semi leucistic (lacking plumage pigment). He seems to be in perfect physical health. I’ll keep an eye on him to see if any variations develop while he grows older. He’s part of the cardinal’s clan nesting all over my backyard. See the photos below and give me your opinion.

I have seen this as well in the nature sites we visit. I will be interested to know how things go with the birds you are watching. Thanks for sharing.
Whatever I might observe as unusual I will definitely report it on my blog. Thanks! 🙂
Are you involved with your local Audubon Society? They could probably give you more information and might even be interested in seeing these photos. I think they often track oddities such as this. Very interesting to see your pictures and I will be very interested to see what you find out and what other’s opinions are.
No, I’m not. However, by posting my observations I get the curiosity of scholars once in a while. By blogging my findings I give others the opportunity to use these as inspiration to study further. As it is my life is as busy as I want it to be.
Thank you NW for your comments and kindness! 🙂
I am not involved with them, either, but my husband works with a man who is very involved. Sometimes I get photos of birds that are unusual to our area – like a couple of years ago I had a summer tanager at my feeders, and we are not in their range. My husband then shared my photos with a co-worker who shared them with the Audubon society. This has happened on a few occasions, that’s why I wondered if you had ever contacted them when you saw something different. You sure get a wonderful variety of birds! 🙂
H.J is whom I would go to for all things bird related :-). I have been following him for over a year now and I am constantly amazed at all of the different species of birds that he has photographed.
