What do you do?
What do you do when you have birds like the ones shown on the pictures below_standing about 10 ft. from you and they don’t even seem spooked by your presence when you approach them?
Simple answer: Take pictures! (That’s what I did!)
I don’t usually get subjects that pose quietly for me, but in this case these Black Vultures always wait to see what your next move is! Photos don’t really bother them! As you must know they are large birds found in most countries of the world.
Although they are not known for being good-looking birds, they do possess an important role in Nature as well as a great service to our Ecology.

Yes HJ, take pictures. Definitely don’t lie down and play dead.
🙂 Good one Dave!
Good decision.
Thanks Tom! 🙂
Nice shots. How cooperative for them to just hang around. We don’t have black vultures out west, only turkey vultures.
Thank you for your comment! 🙂
Wow I’ve never seen Black Vultures this close. Lucky you! Great photos. Maybe the vultures were curious about you being curious about them… I love the way their feathers start right at a definite collar-like line, as if they’re wearing vests or jackets.
I guess I’m lucky as you say! Thanks for your comment Lisa! 🙂
Great photos H.J. This is the first time I have seen a Black Vulture. It was about a year ago I came across 3 Turkey Vultures and I was amazed at how large those particular birds are. The Black Vulture although not necessarily a beauty is a little more attractive to me than the Turkey Vultures :-).
Thanks MD! 🙂
