Red-bellied Woodpecker

The last time I was in Florida I had the opportunity to photograph the Red-bellied Woodpecker.

This bird has a favorite tree to look for insects and other creepy crawlers: High on the palm trees. Knowing their preference I always head for the tallest palm trees and look all around the trunk near the top. I do this because they creep around the trunk when they see someone approach the tree in other words they hide from you. I have noticed that most of the different types of woodpeckers use that same strategy to avoid intruders.
