This week I’ve been working very hard manicuring my lawn, shrubs, hedges, plants and backyard extension. But then when I finished I took some time shooting pictures. I’m displaying some of them on today’s post. The weather is on the hot side and has been tough to work outdoors. But I had to do it. I always like my hose to be looking good.
One thing I observed was that I saw a large variety of birds coming to my feeders. My wife saw a Hawk being chased by two Northern Mockingbirds and then she told me I lost a chance for a great picture.
My list of birds I saw:
- Northern Cardinal, M & F
- Mourning Dove
- Red-winged Blackbird, M & F
- Brown-headed Cowbird, M & F
- Song Sparrow
- Tufted Titmouse
- Northern Mockingbird
- Common Grackle, M & F
- Carolina Chickadee
- Field Sparrow
- Eastern Towhee, M & F
- Ruby Throated Hummingbird
- Cooper’s Hawk
- European Starling

The blue jay is so fluffy and adorable. 😉
They are handsome birds! Thanks Daphne! 🙂
It’s easy to see yours is definitely a wonderful backyard for our feathered friends, it’s awesome to have so many come to reside and/or visit you!
My best PR has been having fresh seeds to feed them everyday. Other people from my community have feeders but they do not tend to them daily and they complaint that birds don’t come to their feeders. Even my next door neighbor. How do you explain that?
I miss blue jays. They were back yard pests in Texas although my wise old grandmother (MWOG) and I loved them. When I went off to college at Texas A&M University, the college bookstore had a special section which basically was where students could buy interesting and unusual things for their parents. I bought a limited edition of porcelain bluejays. You can see part of them in the upper left corner of the first picture in my post at http://russelrayphotos2.com/2012/06/17/i-told-myself-i-couldnt-do-it-what-did-i-know/. When MWOG died in 2003, I got the bluejays back. They are #111 by Andrea by Sedak (might be Sadek). I remember how my checking account was aching when I bought those darn birds but I sure like them now that they are mine!
Nice work of art!
