Great Blue Heron
The Great Blue Heron is definitely not from my backyard! But I have it as a great favorite amongst bird subjecst for photography. This bird has the habit of always choosing the best backgrounds and colorful locations to hang out.
There’s no doubt this is an elegant bird with great personality and poise.
I’ll be scheduling a trip to see this place in GA where I go and usually get great pictures of them. Today I bring you some shots from last year’s visit.

Wonderful shots Av. I have never seen one before.
The day you see one you’ll love it! Thanks! 🙂
Now I keep looking for them everywhere, but, alas, I don’t think these beauties like WA!
You’d have to go places where are wetlands or marshes, always close to rivers or lakes even ponds. Thanks for your comment Julie! 🙂
Great shots, HJ. We get Great Blues quite a bit in the Chicago suburbs but needless to say the backgrounds are not so spectacular. I especially love the last photograph.
Thank you Lisa for your comment and sharing! 🙂
We have them all over the place here. Great photos, H.J.
I love those birds! Thanks Bob! 🙂
Wonderful photos HJ! The GBH is a beautiful bird to photograph and one of my favorites too. 🙂
I’m very glad, we can compare notes then! 🙂 Thanks Donna!
Beautiful work. You put me to shame, me and my blurry out of focus eagle LOL
Don’t feel bad about it! You can learn with more practice. Thanks for your kind comment Dou-Dou! 🙂
I like them because they like to walk around slowly and meticulously, seeming not to care that I’m there taking their pictures. I have a favorite place here where great blues and black-crowned nights hang out with the great egrets, snow egrets, and pelicans. Always interesting for photography.
Those birds are never in a hurry if you noticed, they make good subject for pictures! Thanks for sharing Russ! 🙂
Thanks for letting me camp out in your blog today. As always, I had a great time and tried to leave my campsite as clean as when I arrived.
Thank you Sir! You’re invited to camp here at your convenience! 🙂
