Brown Pelican

Brown Pelicans are large birds of the sea, great flyers and excellent fishing birds. They can catch fish by scooping them from the water or by diving into the water with spectacular flying maneuver.

They are found all over the world, they have adapted to a variety of habitats and are proliferous and abundant.

I have shot a series of photos of these birds in flight. They are now on the move looking best fishing spots and ready to fatten up, mate and have babies!

  1. They don’t seem to be down here in the southwest of WA, but they are around up north a bit towards Perth. I think they are fascinating and your pics are great – thank you!

  2. Nice shots! I love pelicans with their huge beaks. We don’t see many around our immediate area in the mid-Chesapeake Bay, but when we head just an hour or two south of us on the Bay by boat, they begin to appear in the sky. I get excited each time I see them!

    • Yes, they are usually more to the South of you or farther North of your location! I hope you get a chance to photograph them! πŸ™‚

  3. Up until about eight or nine years ago, pelicans were few and far between here. Then I noticed that they seemed to be appearing everywhere, and by the hundreds, not just one or two. Last year I read an article that confirmed my suspicion but the article didn’t give us a reason, only that the population has increased dramatically.

    • I quoted an article about a problem with the Peruvian Pelicans I believe it was last year. The problem was all the opposite: decreasing the pelican population!
