Bird Migration

I’ve noticed that many of the birds that usually visit my feeders have not been around for a while. Lately I see many Northern Cardinals, Carolina Chickadees, Mourning Doves, some Shiny Cowbirds and a few times Northern Mockingbird or House Finches. I wonder if the rest have started to migrate. Maybe I should take in consideration the weather temperature that has been dropping into the 30’s F at night and mornings in the past few days, of course that warms up later from middle 60’s to low  70’s. Perhaps it might be cold enough for some birds to start their migration heading south where is warmer. I’m going to research about this matter a bit.

Forgot to mention, I had a surprise visit yesterday, a Song Sparrow was hopping around pecking on fallen seeds from the feeders. At first I wasn’t sure about the identification until I saw the pattern of the white beard from the bill to the cheek. (See photo)

From far I thought that it was a White-Throated Sparrow, but did not have the yellow stripes on the crown. However, they move around in a similar way.

I’m so happily entertained with the birds stuff, I’m thinking of extending my birding to further than my backyard, actually all of Georgia is my backyard! 🙂

  1. I feel the same way about my back yard. I used to want a huge back yard, and when I got it, I found that I spent so much time maintaining it that I didn’t have time to enjoy it. Now I just enjoy what I have and go out to visit everything that San Diego County has to offer me.

    • Even if your backyard is small it would have to be manicured an taken care or you’ll have a jungle for sure!
