European Starling

European Starling, sp. name: “Sturnus Vulgaris”

Description:

Brought to America by european in the 19th Century, now they are very numerous in all the Continent.

Starlings are chunky and blackbird size but with short tail and long slender beaks. Their wings are short and pointed. In flight the look like four pointed stars hence the name.

At a distance they look black but in summer they are purplish-green or in winter they are brown with white spots. They travel in large groups and are loud.

Their habitat: They are common in towns, suburbs and countryside near humans, they feed on the ground on lawns, fields, sidewalks, they perch high on wires, roofs, buildings, trees.

I have seen this specie only twice.
